Global Studies is actively involved in all levels of outreach, with a goal of providing educators and community leaders with the tools to integrate global content into curriculum and community programs, increasing awareness of global issues and better preparing a citizenry for an increasingly interconnected world.

We are a partner in the Wisconsin International Outreach Consortium (WIOC) whose mission is to share resources and collaboratively support international education and global awareness.

Global Studies strives to put the Wisconsin Idea in Action. To learn more how Global Studies can assist you, email us with your questions or suggestions.

Global Studies offers K-12 educators numerous resources for classroom use and opportunities to develop their own global knowledge and skills and curriculum. By providing educators with the tools to integrate global content into the curriculum we seek to increase students' awareness of global issues and prepare them for citizenship in an increasingly interconnected world.

  • Global Studies offers teacher workshops:
  • Global Studies collaborated with the American Red Cross and other National Resource Centers on a summer 2012 workshop on Exploring Humanitarian Law & Human Rights, 18-22 June 2012, on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
  • Global Studies developed World Ecosystems Beyond Borders (WEBB): An Environmental Curriculum for Wisconsin Students to help middle school teachers bring global environmental issues to their science and social studies classrooms and challenge students to compare environmental issues faced by Wisconsin populations with similar issues faced by communities abroad. The units have fallen out of date though you can still find archived versions of the curriculum here (November 2013).
  • Global Studies offers the Global Guide -- an online resource for teachers and students at all levels on issues of globalization and global studies.
  • Together with its partner WIOC programs, Global Studies is also a proud sponsor of the following annual events (and much more):

Global Studies, the International Institute, and the Division of International Studies, sponsor a number of research circles and related interdisciplinary programs. These thematic groups involve UW-Madison faculty and graduate students from various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences and are designed to create new forms of area knowledge that cross traditional regional and disciplinary borders. Information on opportunities for funding such programs is available from Global Studies.
