In 2008 one of our SKJ Travel Fellows -- Özlem Altıok -- came across the "traditional" Labor Day protests taking place in Istanbul and was able to film a bit of them. There are a number of items of note in the images: the reporters (who seem to outnumber the police and certainly the protesters in camera range), the South Korean flag that flashes briefly in the window, smiling faces and the clang and rattle of tear gas canisters.
